Whether it’s your first professional shoot or your fiftieth, a little preparation goes a long way in making your session fun, relaxed, and full of genuine moments. At Diapers and I Do’s Photography, we’re all about capturing real connection, real joy, and real life. Here are five simple tips to help you shine in front of the camera!
1. Coordinate Outfits, Don’t Match
Gone are the days of everyone in jeans and white tees (unless that’s your thing!). Choose a color palette with 2–3 complementary tones and dress each person a little differently within that range. Layers, textures, and soft, natural tones always look beautiful on camera.
2. Make It Meaningful
Think beyond pretty pictures—what story do you want to tell? Bring props, outfits, or locations that have special meaning to your family or your love story. A favorite book, blanket, or toy for the kids, or even your dog can add personality and authenticity to your session.
3. Timing is Everything
Golden hour (an hour after sunrise or before sunset) is chef’s kiss for dreamy, flattering light. Trust us on this one—if we suggest an early or later shoot time, it’s because the light will work magic.
4. Don’t Stress the Kids (or Yourself)
We get it—photos with toddlers, babies, or teens can feel unpredictable. But some of the most beautiful moments come from just letting your family be. Laugh, play, snuggle—leave the posing to us, and we’ll capture the love naturally.
5. Trust the Process
You chose us for a reason, and we’re honored to capture your story. Trust our direction, lean into the moment, and know that your only job is to be you. We’ve got the rest.
Bonus Tip: Have Fun!
Seriously. Breathe, be present, and let the love shine. Some of the best images happen in between the planned shots—when you're just laughing, cuddling, or chasing a runaway toddler (yep, those end up being everyone's favorite).
