Why You Should Take More Photos of the 'Ordinary' Days.

Updated: Apr 4

When we think about taking photos of our kids, we usually think about the big moments: birthdays, first days of school, vacations, holidays. And don’t get me wrong — those are special. But lately, I've realized something: it's the ordinary days I want to remember the most.

The messy, beautiful, nothing-special kind of days. The mornings when their hair is wild from sleep, and they're still clutching their favorite stuffed animal. The snack-time smiles smeared with peanut butter. The sidewalk chalk masterpieces. The mismatched outfits they insisted on wearing. The way they look when they’re completely lost in play.

These are the moments that don’t get a party or a hashtag. But someday, they’ll be the ones I miss the most.

The Beauty in the Everyday

The truth is, everyday life moves fast — and it's easy to overlook the magic that's hiding in plain sight.Taking photos on the ordinary days reminds me to slow down, to notice the tiny details: their chubby fingers grasping a crayon, the way the afternoon light falls across their faces, the little gap in their smile before it disappears forever.

Photography has become more than just a way to document. It's a way to appreciate. To freeze the little things that make up the real story of who they are.

You Don’t Need a Fancy Setup

You don't need a professional camera. You don't need coordinated outfits. You don't even need your kids to look at the camera (trust me — sometimes those are the best shots).

All you need is a willingness to grab your phone or camera when the feeling strikes. Capture the sleepy mornings. The backyard adventures. The bath time giggles. The messy, real, unscripted moments.

One Day, You'll Be Glad You Did

Someday, the toys will be packed away. The tiny shoes will be outgrown. The everyday chaos will feel like a distant memory.

When that day comes, these photos — the ones that seem "ordinary" now — will be priceless treasures. They’ll be the ones that transport you back to the heart of it all.

So next time you're wondering whether to pick up your camera on a random Tuesday afternoon, do it.Take the photo. Save the memory. The ordinary days are the real milestones.
